Novelty 2026: Between 1946 and 1989, the diesel-electric locomotives of the Class 500 shaped daily operations of the Dutch State Railways (NS). A total of 45 machines were in service – reliable, powerful, and unmistakable. The first ten units (Nos. 501–510) arrived in the Netherlands immediately after World War II via the British War Department. The striking gray three-axle locomotives quickly became indispensable helpers in shunting operations – especially at major stations such as Utrecht, Zwolle, and Rotterdam Feijenoord. Due to their great reliability, the NS soon increased their fleet: 35 more locomotives (Nos. 511–545) followed, initially in classic olive green, and from the 1970s in modern yellow-gray.
